What is Somatic Bodywork?
The Pantarei Approach uses verbal communication, hands on touch, pressure, and movement as sources to provide the client with information about themselves. The goal of a session is to become aware of those places where we are "holding". Somatic work is therefore a form of education in which a client becomes able to consciously alter their own experience as a result of increased awareness.
By reintroducing a client to the connections between their thinking, feeling and physical sensations, they will be able to notice patterns in their life that create emotional and mental obstacles. When a person becomes aware of their inner voice and can get in touch with their body more fully, they feel more in flow and in control of their lives, ready to go forward, make changes and feel more empowered.
The nervous system can become stuck in a state of tension, arousal or shutdown. Somatic experiences directly develop new neural pathways and behaviors, which allows the client to respond to their environment in alternative ways, replacing old negative patterns with new positive ones. Looking for a new pattern of thinking comes from experience, not from more thinking.
Ultimately in learning to consciously listen to the various physical states of the body, we can use this knowledge for self-management, and feel more in control of the shape of our own flow.
